Kevin Prater is proud to introduce the newest member of The Kevin Prater Band, 19 year old Jacob (Jake) Layne Northern from Sandstone, WV. Jacob began playing in church on the electric bass at age nine. Soon after he learned the upright bass with encouragement of his older brother. Playing music came natural to Jacob and his siblings. In 2014 they were encouraged to play the local talent show, "Hinton's Got Talent", winning first place. They spent the next year and a half touring local and regional shows, including twice opening for Dr. Ralph Stanley & The Clinch Mountain Boys.
In Spring of 2019 Jacob became a member of Streamliner Bluegrass Band. While preforming at the "Hills of Home Bluegrass Festival" in Coeburn, VA., Jacob met The Po' Ramlin Boys, The Alex Leach Band, Ralph Stanley II, Kevin Prater and his favorite bass player, Jasper Lorentzen. Meeting all these talented musicians inspired Jacob to work hard and become a better bass player. Since then, Jacob has had amazing opportunities including playing The World Famous Station Inn with The Alex Leach Band and playing with Seth Mulder & Midnight Run at Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery.
Jacob feels blessed and honored to be welcomed as the bass player for The Kevin Prater Band.
